BIOGRAPHY

Jhoan Roa (b. 1992, Guanare, Venezuela) is a contemporary artist based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose practice is centered on soft sculpture. His principal body of work, *EXISTENCE and ANNEXUS*, is composed of large-scale soft sculptures handcrafted from textile, canvas and fiber. Through sewing and assemblage, Roa builds monumental yet intimate forms — columns, totemic figures and abstract bodies that explore presence, memory and the human condition.

Rooted in meticulous craftsmanship, each work is conceived as a unique, archival object, handmade in his studio to endure. His textile pieces and hand-stitched canvases extend this sculptural language, combining text and fabric into contemplative surfaces. Roa’s work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions across Latin America and Asia and is held in private collections internationally. His works on canvas are developed as studies for his soft sculptures, forming part of his studio archive.
